About Us

A partnership between the Province of Nova Scotia and seven municipal units, the Western Regional Enterprise Network(Western REN) leads an extensive network of business and public sector partnerships. This network works to create a business and investment friendly environment in Southwest Nova Scotia.



With a focus on workforce, business succession, and infrastructure improvements, the Western REN has been Informing,Connecting, and Accelerating economic development since 2014. The approach balances direct business-facing services with region-wide collaborations for overcome immediate challenges to rural economic development.

The seven municipal units and Nova Scotian government agencies listed below match each other’s funding to provide the core operating budget of the Western REN. The funders collectively appoint a private-sector Board of Directors, ensuring the diversity among the Directors reflects the diversity of the region’s population.

Board members are recruited and appointed based on their skills and competencies in finance, business acumen, governance, entrepreneurship, leadership, strategic planning, and their ability to think and take decisions through a regional lens.

The Board is responsible for the fiscal accountability and strategic direction of the organization – they hire the CEO to run the organization and oversee all staff.
