Western REN Highlights Success of Critical Business Roundtable
Yarmouth, NS – March 18, 2026 – The Western Regional Enterprise Network (Western REN), in partnership with the Yarmouth & Area Chamber of Commerce and CBDC Yarmouth, hosted a highly successful Critical Business Roundtable on February 26 at the Rodd Grand Hotel. Nearly 40 business leaders, industry representatives, and community partners gathered to discuss pressing challenges and growth opportunities in southwestern Nova Scotia’s economy.
Wade Cleveland of Western REN moderated the Roundtable. Key themes included power reliability amid rising grid demands, regulatory delays hindering aquaculture expansion, diversification needs for the Port of Yarmouth’s seafood economy (handling $40-60 million annually), persistent labour shortages due to housing and childcare barriers, and strategies to attract talent to the region. Participants expressed optimism about sectors like aquaculture, seafood value-add, and supplier ecosystems but called for better coordination, faster processes, and tailored business supports to unlock potential.
Western REN is committed to advancing these insights through advocacy with municipal, provincial, and federal partners. Building on this momentum, the Chamber, Western REN and CBDC are plannong on hosting focused roundtables to drive targeted action on regional economic priorities.
“Businesses in southwestern Nova Scotia are ready to grow, but they need clearer pathways and stronger supports,” said Wade Cleveland of Western REN. “This roundtable demonstrated the power of collaboration, and we’re excited for the next steps.”
