Western REN Welcomes Sara Bateman as New Local Immigration Partnership Coordinator

The Western REN is pleased to welcome Sara Bateman as our new Local Immigration Partnership (LIP) Coordinator.

The Local Immigration Partnership helps communities across Western Nova Scotia become more welcoming and inclusive for newcomers. It builds strong local partnerships and improves connections between community organizations, services, employers, and residents. The goal is to help newcomers feel supported, connected, and able to build successful lives in the region.

Sara brings more than 20 years of experience working as a strategist, facilitator, and evaluator. She has focused on helping organizations and communities work together to solve problems, navigate change, and create meaningful impact.

Sara is a graduate of of the University of Waterloo’s Social Innovation Graduate Program. She leads with collaboration, systems thinking, and community-centered approaches in her work. Most recently, she worked as a consultant supporting organizations with strategy development, governance, and impact evaluation rooted in equity, learning, and community insight.

Sara also brings valuable experience from her previous role as Co-Chair of the Calgary Local Immigration Partnership. There she helped strengthen collaboration and community planning to better support newcomers.

Originally from Alberta, Sara moved to Nova Scotia in 2021 and now calls Clare home. In her new role with Western REN, she will work closely with partners and communities throughout Western Nova Scotia to strengthen newcomer connections and support more welcoming communities across the region.

The work of the LIP is an important part of supporting long-term economic and community development throughout the region. Strong, welcoming communities help attract and retain people, strengthen local businesses and organizations, and contribute to a vibrant future for Western Nova Scotia.
