Win This Space Competition- The Winner Is…
The Western Regional Enterprise Network, The Town of Yarmouth, Ignite Labs, and the Community
Business Development Corporation
Yarmouth, Nova Scotia– The final pitches took place today for the Western Regional Enterprise
Network’s (Western REN) Win This Space Business Start-Up Competition.
The five finalists pitched their businesses Dragon’s Den style to the three independent judges over Zoom
on Thursday January 28th, 2021. We are very excited to announce that the Grand Prize winner of this
competition is Jenny Wilcockson of London Calling British Boutique. The winner of the second-place
prize is Wild Roots Catering.
The winner will be awarded one-year $1000 per month rent contribution which will be paid directly to
the landlord, an Ignite Lab Resident Membership for one year and a website with an e-commerce
platform included. The 2nd place winner will also receive an Ignite Lab Resident Membership for one year
and a website.
“This has been such an amazing experience” said Jenny Wilcockson of London Calling British Boutique.
“This means a lot that people believe that this can be successful and fun, thank you so so much.”
Since September 2020 the Western REN, Ignite Labs, the Yarmouth Community Business Development
Corporation (CBDC), and the Town of Yarmouth have been working together to bring this competition to
the region.
The competition began with eighteen local entrepreneurs who undertook training sessions delivered by
the CBDC and Mash Up Labs to help them with their business plans and pitch training. The participants
submitted their business plans to three independent judges on January 4th, 2021.
The top five finalists: Wild Roots Catering- Kyle Brownell, Tide Kite- Blerina Berberi, London Calling
British Boutique- Jenny Wilcockson, Word-craft Inc- Ingrid Deon and Accountable Bookkeeping and Tax
Service- Jenny Scott, were announced last week via Facebook Live.
“This competition has highlighted the caliber of entrepreneurs we are seeing in rural communities” said
Mary Thompson, chair of the Western REN Board. “Any of these businesses would make a great addition
to our region.”
The Winner Jenny Wilcockson of London Calling British Boutique will choose their preferred rental
location and are expected to open the doors in early April 2021
