Effective September 8, 2026, Canada implemented counter-tariffs of 15, 25 and 50 percent on approximately $27.6 billion worth of U.S. goods in direct response to U.S. Section 338 and Section 232 tariffs.
Key Sectors Impacted: Steel and aluminum, dairy, appliances, agricultural equipment, pulp and paper, furniture, apparel, and electronics.
Fish and seafood products were removed from the final applied list. Goods in transit to Canada before the effective time are exempt.

Just enter your product (or HS code) and destination to see applicable duty rates and compare options across markets. It’s ideal for making smart trade decisions when you need to pivot suppliers, markets, or sourcing strategies in today’s shifting tariff environment.

Tariff and Customs Advisory Program (TCAP)
TCAP offers Atlantic Canadian companies expert guidance to manage tariffs, optimize supply chains, and stay compliant with trade regulations.
TCAP includes:
- Up to 12 hours of Consulting (maximum contribution of $1,750.00 + HST) to assist with addressing challenges related to tariffs
- Expert consultants: Customs Brokers, Trade Consultants and Trade Lawyers
- Participation fee: $99.00 (no HST)
- The program is open to registered companies headquartered in Atlantic Canada with exportable products or services impacted by tariffs and retaliatory tariffs. Companies must be in good standing with TCAP’s federal and provincial partners.
Spaces are limited. Complete and submit the TCAP Application Form here. The application deadline is December 31, 2026. at 5:00 p.m. ADT.

RevUp! Support for Businesses Expanding Beyond the US Market
Invest Nova Scotia’s RevUp! program is now open for submissions. It’s built for established, high-growth Nova Scotia businesses looking to diversify away from tariff-exposed trade and accelerate into new geographic markets or new national and multinational supply chains. Eligible businesses can receive 75% of eligible project costs, up to $150,000, to help with certifications and regulatory requirements, IP and legal barriers, product or packaging development, market validation, productivity improvements, and market-specific expertise.
Businesses have until September 23, 2026 at 3:00 PM ADT to apply. Full program details are available through Invest Nova Scotia, and businesses can also connect with a Regional Business Development Advisor to discuss whether their project fits.

Workforce Tariff Response Fund
Created in 2025, the $13.8 million Workforce Tariff Response Fund is still available, jointly funded by Canada and Nova Scotia.
- Supports workers and employers directly or indirectly affected by tariffs, including in steel, softwood lumber, fisheries and seafood, agri-food, manufacturing, and automotive
- Runs from fiscal year 2025–26 through 2027–28
Support is accessible in communities across the province, including here in Western Nova Scotia
Employers apply through LaMPSS (Labour Market Programs Support System), with an Itemized Budget Breakdown attached.
